Well, the panel finally happened. And while I’m pretty glad it’s done and over with, I’m kinda pissed at myself that I didn’t speak up more! Haha. Of course, I thought about more relevant things to say a few minutes after it was over!!! But it’ cool, that just means that we’ll have to do a follow-up panel. Diplomacy all the way, right? At least now I know how it feels and am better prepared for next time. I think it went well for the most part, I mean once my heart stopped violently thumping and my pupils got used to the glaring streaks of bright ass light and all.

The evening’s consensus seemed to be that we need a whole lot more time to talk about this matter and try to come up with more effective strategies to teach kids and families. As the guy that was actually raised in unincorporated East Los Angeles, my experiences were different than the study’s findings, meaning that there must be others like me. Including a couple of people that actually came out from East LA and went up to me after the panel to congratulate me and share their similar experiences growing up in the barrio.

Anyways, for the word-by-word official recap, check out Zocalo Public Square’s page.

See you at the next panel, coming soon, real soon. On December 12th actually! It’ll be a panel on old fashioned cocktails for KPCC, so mark your calendars. Stay tuned for the full post on that!
